Choosing the better option

As a runner, I crave sugar constantly. I have tried to stick with the ‘good’ old sugars such as fruit etc but there is always that sweet temptation for a chocolate mess! So I have been on the lookout for something which can satisfy the cravings without making me feel that pang of guilt… Naughty, naughty! I looked up some homemade recipes online but I don’t have much time on my hands (or it seems that way!)

Then I came across this little beaut of a treat! I tried this a few weeks ago but then I thought I could play around with the ingredients… And this is what I’ll be showing you today!

I call this ‘choosing the better option’ as we all know that we can’t be super healthy ALL the time, but going for the middle ground with yourself. Going amber light instead of red light. (Emma’s pulling out all the puns.) Realistic and much more fun!

All you need is:
Pitted dates,
Cashew nuts,
Peanut butter
And honey.

All these ingredients are natural (Barr the peanut butter but it IS full of protein and IS great for that sweet tooth) also energy giving! Great for a morning boost or pre-workout.

The original recipe includes dark raw cacao chocolate if you would rather have that bitter sweet taste than the creamy peanut butter texture.

All you need is a very good blender, a baking tray and some tin foil!

Blast half a cup full of cashew nuts and pitted dates together in a blender (do a little at a time as too many items in the blender will cause it to crash! I should know…) Repeat until you have a small trays worth… But put into a large bowl.

This is the messy part! Pour over some natural honey and peanut butter (will look a bit of a mess at first, bear with me here.) mix with a spoon and then place back into the tray into a rectangular shape.

Leave in the freezer over night.

Then get a large sharp knife and cut into ‘bite-size’ pieces. I had to use my hands and mould some of the pieces together as it can get very ‘bitty’.
Leave them in the fridge and eat within a week! Or put them back in to the freezer for a longer lasting treat. 😀

All natural, gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, basic fuelling goodness!

    Have you tried Nakd bars? They are a great alternative if you have a sweet tooth! I love them! Xx
